Big Bang extends contracts with YG Entertainment for another five years

On April 7th, it was revealed that the members of Big Bang have extended their contracts with their label, YG Entertainment, for another five years!

Representatives from YG revealed, “The Big Bang members, who have been with us for 10 years since their trainee days, are like family members to us. We are thankful that they have put their trust in the label they’ve debuted with once again, but most of all, we are glad that Big Bang will be able to stand before their fans for a longer time.”

They continued, “Discord usually arises between idol groups and their agencies at exactly the five year milestone, when contracts come to an end. This year is Big Bang’s fifth anniversary, and although there’s been rumors about the group, none regarding discord within the group or with the agency have been accurate. They hold strong trust in each other.”
Big Bang will be returning with their special edition album on April 8th.

Big Bang teases with final ‘Love Song’ teaser

We are less than 24 hours away from Big Bang’s special edition release, but the boys have decided to grace their fans with a final teaser.

They’ve just released a final preview clip for their title track, “Love Song“,  and it’s heightened the anticipation to the point where it’s almost unbearable for some VIPs.

Big Bang tires netizens and industry representatives with their refusal to appear on “Music Bank”

Although they apparently came to a compromise last month, KBS and Big Bang are at it again, as BigBang was recently reported to have rejected an appearance on “Music Bank“.

A representative of a broadcast company shared with Newsen, “A day before their recording for ‘Music Bank,’ Big Bang told producers that they would not be appearing on the show because they were not a nominee for the ‘K-Chart‘.”

He continued, “Two weeks ago, Big Bang was promised a two-track stage, but after finding out that the ‘K-Chart’ nominees were TVXQ and K.Will, they suddenly changed their decision and said they would not be attending.”

As it turns out, representatives of YG Entertainment had indeed put up a notice for fans asking them to attend the pre-recording for Big Bang, but “Music Bank” later put up a notice saying that plans were canceled due to a personal reason from the artists’ end.

According to a majority of music and broadcast representatives, “Music Bank” had prepared a ’spring special’ with a bigger time slot. In order to make up for past controversies, “Music Bank” offered Big Bang a two-track stage, which YG had accepted. Unfortunately, a day before the recording was to be held, Big Bang called in saying that they would not be appearing, which representatives have interpreted to mean, “Aren’t they basically saying that they refuse to appear if they’re not a nominee for the ‘K-Chart’?”

YG Entertainment had tried to clarify that there “was a misunderstanding“, but the damage had already been done.

A representative of “Music Bank” replied, “We have nothing else left to say on matters regarding Big Bang’s ‘Music Bank’ appearance.’”

It’s not only KBS who’s frustrated by the turn of events, but industry and broadcast representatives as well. They reportedly lost their trust in YG and Big Bang because of this arrogant attitude, and many have concluded that it will be Big Bang who will lose ground should they “refuse to appear if they are not the best.”

One broadcast PD added, “Without any special reasons, the fact that they canceled a day before the recording was undeniably discourteous. KBS had given them a two-track stage, what does that make the producers then? After this, it’s going to be hard for them to be invited again, because nothing will ensure that this won’t happen again.”

Another industry representative stated, “YG Entertainment is too focused on winning. What fans want is the performance, not the win. There are fans who have been waiting for Big Bang’s comeback, but they haven’t been able to see as much of the group as they can because of the continued discord between YG Entertainment and broadcast companies. Both parties need to figure out the reason for the discord and reflect on what’s best, because there’s a big possibility that the fans will get tired of it and turn their backs.”

Big Bang speaks out on their disbandment rumors through “Come to Play”

On April 4th, the members of Big Bang guested on MBC’s “Come to Play“, and finally spoke out on the rumors regarding their disbandment.

Heading into their fifth year this year, the group has gone through a series of disbandment rumors every time the members came out with solos or unit activities.

Idols are notoriously known for the ‘five-year-jinx’ - Seo Taiji and Kids disbanding after three years and nine months, H.O.T. broke apart after four years and five months, S.E.S. after five years, and g.o.d.after five years as well.

Daesung, who participated in the special through a phone call, explained, “There were honestly a lot of moments where we were at risk of disbanding, especially with our recent album. We fought a lot while preparing for it, since all of us had gone through solos or units, and now had to deal with differences in opinions.”

Taeyang continued, “After about four years, we all delved into separate activities that made us think on separate paths. The amount of time we spent meeting up became less and less, and I felt that we were growing distant. When CEO Yang Hyun Suk told us that we weren’t like we used to be, we wondered if we had lost our rookie mindset.”

T.O.P. stated, “We were also upset with the rumors that people were making up and the one-sided way they were viewing us.”

When asked about how they were going to overcome these obstacles and become a long-term group, the members revealed that they would not be focusing on money and popularity, and that they’d be protecting their rights of belief, hope, and private lives.

Daesung concluded, “Since we’re like family, I hope that we’ll remain as good brothers for a long, long time as a group.”

Why did T.O.P. shed tears on “Come to Play”?

Big Bang’s T.O.P. recently shed tears after reading a letter from his mother. The members of Big Bang (minus Daesung who couldn’t make it due to a personal schedule) appeared on April 4th’s episode of “Come To Play“, where they each received handwritten letters from their parents.

The staff from “Come to Play” specially delivered letters written by the members’ mothers to cheer up the members, who have not been able to spend much time with family because of their busy schedules and dorm lives. When the Big Bang members heard that their parents had written letters for them, they were happily surprised. Even before revealing the contents of the letter, their eyes filled with tears. T.O.P. in particular was unable to hold back his tears, and, eventually, the tears flowed down his face.

After reading that his mother wanted to become his lighthouse, T.O.P. stated, “I feel like I’ve only shown her sides of me where I was unsure of myself and always worrying. I was rebellious in high school and didn’t attend class.”

Being sons who are normally blunt by nature, the members revealed that they never really told their mother, “I love you”. They used this opportunity during the broadcast to send their parents a heartfelt video message of their love and appreciation for them.

After reading that his mother had written that she wanted to cook him a meal in her letter, G-Dragonstated, “I’m upset that it’s come to a point where my mother has to ask to have a meal with me. I let her see me sigh too many times while producing this album; I’m extremely apologetic about that.”

Taeyang revealed, “When I said that I wanted to become a singer, my mother had a hard time with it. I showed my determination by refusing to go home, and I’m sure that hurt her a lot.”

Seungri expressed his gratitude towards the love his mother wrote in his letter, but jokingly added, “I think she wrote it in a rush.”
